Discover a new side of The Potters Shed through our special events, creative workshops and limited studio experiences.

This is where we bring something different to the studio — from experimental firing techniques and sculptural clay sessions to guest masterclasses, glaze explorations and seasonal creative events. These workshops are designed for people who want to go beyond the usual class format and experience clay in a more playful, expressive and hands-on way.

Our special events are a chance to learn new techniques, connect with other creative people and take part in unique studio experiences that are not always available in our regular weekly courses.

Each event is released separately with its own details, dates, inclusions and skill level, so keep an eye on this page for upcoming workshops, one-off sessions and limited creative experiences at The Potters Shed.

CURRENT EVENTS:

Raku Workshop Experience (3 day workshop)

Join us for a special three-part Raku workshop at The Potters Shed, where you’ll create your own ceramic pieces from start to finish and take part in an exciting outdoor Raku firing event.

This experience begins with a Throwing Day on 15th July, where you’ll make your pieces on the pottery wheel. The following week, on 22nd July, you’ll return to trim and refine your work, preparing it for bisque firing. Then, on 8th August, we’ll come together for our Raku Firing Day, where your pieces will be glazed and fired using the dramatic Raku process.

Each participant will be able to fire up to 3 pieces as part of the workshop.

Raku is a fast, fiery and unpredictable firing technique known for its metallic finishes, crackle effects, smoky surfaces and one-of-a-kind results. Because of the nature of Raku firing, outcomes can vary greatly from piece to piece, and perfect results cannot be guaranteed. Cracks, colour changes, smoke marks and unexpected effects are all part of the process — and part of what makes Raku so exciting.

The final firing day will also include a relaxed BBQ-style studio gathering. Participants are welcome to bring one guest to join them for the Raku firing event. Food will be available to purchase from a food truck on the day.

Previous pottery experience is not mandatory, but some wheel throwing or hand-building experience is preferable, as this workshop involves creating and preparing your own pieces for firing.

Workshop Dates:

Throwing Day: 15th July 6:30-8:30pm
Trimming Day: 22nd July 6:30-8:30pm
BBQ + Raku Firing Day: 8th August From 11am till 6pm.

Price: $175 per person

Includes clay, glazes, firing, all materials needed for the workshop, and entry for one guest to attend the BBQ + firing event.

Face Sculpture Workshop with Scott Matthew Eames

Join us for a special two-day Face Sculpture Workshop at The Potters Shed, guided by Adelaide-based artist Scott Matthew Eames.

Scott brings a strong artistic eye, deep experience with clay, and a natural understanding of sculptural form. His work with clay and sculpture makes him the perfect artist to lead this unique workshop, helping participants explore facial structure, expression, proportion and character in a relaxed, hands-on way.

Across two morning sessions, Scott will guide you through the process of building your own sculptural face from clay. You’ll learn how to shape the main forms, build facial features, create depth and expression, and bring personality into your piece. This workshop is designed to be creative, approachable and engaging — whether you’re completely new to clay or looking to explore a more sculptural side of ceramics.

No previous experience is necessary. Scott will guide you step by step, making the process accessible while still giving you room to create something personal and expressive.

After the workshop, your final piece will be clear glazed and fired, ready for you to collect once completed.

Spots are very limited, with only 12 places available.

Workshop Dates:

Day 1: 19th September, 9:00am – 12:00pm
Day 2: 20th September, 9:00am – 12:00pm

Price: $150 per person

Includes clay, clear glazing, firing, use of tools and all materials needed for the workshop.
